The objective of this project was to determine the congestion and safety effects of pedestrian and driver noncompliance with traffic regulations at signalized intersections in New Brunswick, New Jersey.

The goal was to quantify the effect of different types of “noncompliance events” (e.g., pedestrians blocking traffic, or vehicles blocking other vehicles), in downtown New Brunswick in the vicinity of the train station by analyzing two signalized intersections: Albany Street (NJ 27) at Easton Avenue (CR 514) and at George Street (Middlesex CR 672.

The project was lead in coordination with the Director of Middlesex County Planning.  and provided recommendations to the City of New Brunswick and the County of Middlesex (the owner of these intersections), on ways to manage congestion and the demands from multiple modal users in this location.
