Facilities & Equipment
The FMP laboratory has capabilities and equipment for simulation, optimization modeling, and development of advanced quantitative tools and procedures to support the intermodal freight, maritime, and port industry at strategic, tactical, and operational levels.
The lab is equipped with a SGI server housing the databases, statistical analysis, GIS, mathematical modeling, and simulation tools. Two workstations and several desktops allow for hands-on instruction and concurrent access to the databases and tools by the program’s research team.
The lab setup is ideal for small group instruction and is used to enhance the learning and problem-solving skills of students and researchers. Instructional material in the lab integrates knowledge and skills in various aspects of transportation and logistics, including intermodal freight, maritime, ports, and terminals engineering, planning, management, and operations.
FMP Laboratory Tools
- Berth planner
- Pilot virtual container yard
- Empty containers monitoring
- Best practice model
- Truck volume and flow estimation
- Truck volumes per establishment using QRFM rates
