Topics covered in this course include a discussion of engineering countermeasures as well as implementation strategies. \nOutcomes:\nUpon completion of the course\, participants will be able to: \n\nDescribe the Roadway Departure crash problem\nDiscuss countermeasures to:\n\nReduce potential for leaving the roadway\nReduce potential for a crash if a vehicle does leave the roadway\nMinimize severity if a crash does occur\n\n\nCompare methods for deploying countermeasures\n\nCombating Roadway Departure Crashes Agenda\nSession 1: Introduction to Roadway Departure \nSession 2: How Do We Get To Safety? \nSession 3: Countermeasures to Keep Vehicles on the Roadway – Signing\, Delineation & Lighting \nSession 4: Countermeasures to Keep Vehicles on the Roadway – Pavement & Geometric \nSession 5: Countermeasures to Improve Chances of a Safe Recovery \nSession 6: Countermeasures to Minimize Severity of Crashes that Occur \nTarget Audience:\nThe target audience for the course includes Federal\, State and local highway engineers\, consulting highway design engineers\, and maintenance workers.
