SUMMARY:NJLTAP - Design of ADA Curb Ramps and Pedestrian Access Routes (Webinar)
DESCRIPTION:Course Description:\nThis workshop has been updated to incorporate the Public Right-of-Way Accessibility Guidelines final rule published in the Federal Registry on August 8\, 2023. \nThis is an asynchronous workshop with portions prerecorded as well as live in-person class content. Participants are required to view a prerequisite video prior to the live workshop. The link to the prerequisite video will be included with your confirmation email when you register. \nThis training is designed to ensure that pedestrian facilities and access routes\, in particular curb ramps\, along our roadways are properly design and constructed for all individuals\, including those with disabilities. This training was developed to provide information and good practices for those involved in the design and maintenance of curb ramps and pedestrian facilities\, and for those individuals that ensure the compliance to applicable accessibility laws and guidelines. \nThe workshop will include a brief overview of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)\, Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) requirements\, NJDOT requirements\, AASHTO “Green Book” requirements\, and video presentations by the United States Access Board to provide the attendees with background information and points-of-view of persons with disabilities navigating our pedestrian network. \nAgenda:  \n\nADA Who’s and What’s (video to viewed before attending online portion)\nSidewalks and Street Crossings\nCurb Ramp Components and Design Limits\nTypes of Curb Ramps\nDetectable Warning Surfaces\nCurb Ramps Plans / Design\n\nLearning Objectives:   \n\nIdentify applicable laws\, regulations\, guidelines and standards pertaining to accessibility\nIdentify some of the challenges in the public right-of-way faced by persons with disabilities\nIdentify best practices for the design of accessible pedestrian facilities for accessibility\n\nIntended Audience:  State and local highway engineers\, consulting highway design engineers\, road/street supervisors\, construction & maintenance personnel\, and others responsible for regulatory compliance and management of liability risk will find the workshop beneficial. \nPre-Requisites:    None \nCredits:  6 PDH\, 6 Technical CPWM contact hours \nPresenter: Ted Green\, P.E.\, New Jersey Local Technical Assistance Program (NJ LTAP). \nSponsor:   None
