Traffic Control Coordinator Program
- March 26–March 29
- 8:00 am–4:00 pm
This four-day program is designed for experienced highway work zone personnel who seek training in work zone traffic control. NJDOT and other agencies require a contractor to assign a supervisory-level employee with requisite onsite experience to act as the Traffic Control Coordinator (TCC) on roadway construction projects. This course does offer 25 PDH towards NJ licensed engineers continuing professional competency credit. The program is also open to those who seek to increase their work zone safety and traffic control knowledge, but may not require the formal TCC designation that has prerequisite requirements. Participants who successfully complete this course (and the prerequisites) will be eligible to serve as TCC and shall have the responsibility and authority to implement and maintain all traffic operations for the project. Those with prerequisites will receive a TCC wallet card upon successful completion of the course and exam. Those who do not will receive a course certificates of attendance with applicable PDH credit.
Please note: this is a four-day program. Attendance at all four days is required. In the event that you miss a day of class, you must make up that class in the next available scheduled program before taking the TCC exam.
The course material covers the standard work zone protection as specified in the Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD). It also offers practical exercises on setting up and taking down work zone safety devices found in a traffic control plan. Sessions on OSHA, NJDOT, and state police relationships and work zone traffic control liability issues are included.
In order to be eligible for enrollment, you must show proof of having successfully completed a Work Zone Safety Awareness Program or Flagger Training Workshop, and proof of 4,000 hours (100 weeks) field experience in highway work zones.
The required documentation is a certificate or letter of completion from the training sponsor and a letter from past and/or present employer on employment verification. Please do not send a resume. This information needs to be received and evaluated BEFORE the start of class.
If you do not meet the training prerequisites, you may still attend the Traffic Control Coordinator Program but will receive a certificate of successful attendance only, not the card required by NJDOT for the Traffic Control Coordinator designation. Please note that cards and certificates will not be issued to students if their course fees are delinquent and/or any course prerequisites have not been fulfilled.
