The objective of this research is to identify technological issues and formulate a research agenda for a smart city research program. Given the research strength of the faculty members associated with CTIS at UTEP, this project will focus on the areas of smart bridges, smart mobility and smart building, with a view of submitting a proposal to CAIT’s University Transportation Center in the near future. Among the questions this research will try to answer are:
1. What are the definitions of smart bridges, smart mobility and smart building?
2. What data, sensors, communication, processing and analysis are necessary to make the bridges, highways and buildings smart?
3. What are challenges and the potential research that can facilitate the implementation of smart bridges, smart mobility and smart buildings, as parts of a smart city?
