NJLTAP Enews Volume 20, Issue 2 – March/April 2018
FHWA issued a new updated Interim Approval IA-21 for Rectangular Rapid-Flashing Beacons (RRFB) at pedestrian crossings. RRFBs are again eligible for provisional use, provided all requirements are met. Even agencies with previous IA-11 approvals must apply for the IA-21 for new installations. See helpful FAQs. NJDOT plans to apply for statewide approval under IA-21. As of December 2017, the previous statewide approval (under IA-11) no longer applies to new RRFBs. Photo: Courtesy Fox6 News, Milwaukee.
