The Future World Vision Initiative

  • July 15, 2020
  • 2:00 pm–3:00 pm
You are invited to attend a video call that Center for Advanced Infrastructure and Transportation (CAIT) at Rutgers University is arranging with ASCE on the “Future World Vision’ initiative. CAIT is engaged with ASCE during the development phase of the program, which is designed to help engineers understand, consider new solutions, and plan for the future built environment. The program relies heavily on expansive research into six emerging trends that are shaping the present and will shape the future. These trends are alternative energy, climate change, high-tech construction and advanced materials, autonomous vehicles, smart cities, and policy and funding. These trends, in turn, are being combined to create future scenarios (called City Worlds) based on different ways in which these trends interact. The Future World Vision program explores the realities of each possibility and their repercussions for the world at large.

As the first step in our collaboration with ASCE, we’re planning for a video call with a selected group of faculty members and stakeholders from Rutgers and CAIT partnership to champion the effort and participate in both research and education aspects of the program. Future World Vision provides a window into the types of research that will be in demand in the near future along with educational tools that we can utilize in training the next generation of engineers. In the video call, Mr. Jerry Buckwalter from ASCE will describe the Future World Vision project in detail and discuss how university faculty could be engaged and benefit from the program.
