Dr. Theofanis is Non – Resident Affiliated Faculty with the Centre for Advanced Infrastructure & Transportation (CAIT), Rutgers University, NJ, USA.
An internationally acknowledged expert in Ports, Shipping and Freight Logistics with a unique blend of regulatory; administrative; high level managerial; research; and academic background.
He is Professor of Practice and Program Lead, MSc in Shipping, Port Management and Logistics, CITY College, University of York Europe Campus, Thessaloniki, Greece & Research Fellow (Professorial Fellowship), South – East European Research Center (SEERC). Honorary Professor, University of York School of Management, UK.
He is Visiting Professor / Scholar in many Academic Institutions worldwide.
Ex – Chairman & CEO, Thessaloniki Port Authority SA (ThPA SA), Greece (2018-2020); Co-Director, Freight & Maritime Program at CAIT, Rutgers University (2006 – 2013); President & CEO, Piraeus Port Authority SA (PPA SA), Greece (2002- 2004); CEO, Thessaloniki Port Authority SA (ThPA SA) (1999-2002); Expert, Head of Unit & Acting Director, Ports Directorate, Greek Ministry of Merchant Marine (1986-1999) (retired as Senior Commander (Eng) HCG). Past President of EXANTAS National Port Training Institute, Greece (2018 – 2021).
Founding Member and past Member of the Executive Committee of the European Seaports Organization (ESPO), in April 2019, he has been selected as Port Professional of the month in Europe, by ESPO.
He holds MEng In Civil Engineering (specialization in Port & Environmental Engineering), National Technical University of Athens, Greece; MSc in Environmental Engineering, University of Birmingham, UK; and PhD in Maritime & Port Logistics, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece.
