Fatigue and Fracture of Steel Bridges
- May 20, 2019–May 21, 2019
- 8:00 am–5:00 pm
This two-day workshop provides training on designing and evaluating steel bridges for fatigue and fracture limit states according to the latest editions of the AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications and the AASHTO Manual for Bridge Evaluation. The course covers: the fundamentals of fatigue and fracture of steel structures; the background to the fatigue and fracture provisions within the AASHTO specifications; applications of the provisions for designing steel bridges for fatigue and fracture including design examples; evaluation of existing steel bridges for remaining fatigue life and fracture resistance, including design examples; Inspection, repair and retrofit of steel bridges for fatigue and fracture, both strategies and application examples.
The course is designed incorporating adult-learning principles. Hands on exercises, interactive discussions and real life examples are incorporated into the training for enhancing the bridge engineers’ understanding of the subject and making informed design decisions and structural assessment.
