Emerging Robotic Solutions for Infrastructure Management Workshop

Maintaining the vast network of transportation infrastructure in the United States is an enormous challenge, especially since a significant percentage of these systems are nearing the end of their service life.
Robots are an emerging force for infrastructure construction, condition monitoring, and maintenance. Whether they are rigid machinery systems or soft robots with a mix of mobility, strength, and configurability—and whether they fly, climb, crawl, or swim—these tools are on trajectory of rapidly expanding capabilities, applications, and utility.
Workshop presentations and discussions from researchers, developers, practitioners, and end users cover:
- Current and emerging robotic solutions
- How robots can be deployed to detect and characterize deterioration and other insidious aging effects
- Corrective actions they can take to extend the lifespan of transportation infrastructure
The goal of the event is to overcome inertia hindering wide adoption of robotic technologies by encouraging deliberation about the various barriers and challenges faced in infrastructure construction and maintenance.

Morning sessions (9:00–11:15 am) take place in the CAIT Auditorium on Rutgers Busch Campus at 100 Brett Road, Piscataway NJ 08854. Tours and afternoon sessions (11:15 am–3:30 pm) take place in Richard Weeks Hall of Engineering, a walk of less than 3 minutes from the CAIT building.
