October 2020 marks the 10th anniversary of the Transportation Autism Project at CAIT. This webinar focuses on the first ten years of innovative work from the Center making transportation accessible for those on the autism spectrum.

In this webinar, PIs will discuss work to date studying the reduction of suspension bridge cable strength over time due to fire. This includes, early findings following high-fidelity forensic investigations of structures subjected to fire, quantifying hazards associated with traffic patterns and access to cables, and more.

Following Hurricane Maria, CAIT-affiliated researchers at the Polytechnic University of Puerto Rico have been studying the damage, examining transportation infrastructure that failed during the storm, and developing resources to make local transportation infrastructure more resilient and prepared for future weather events.

Major tunnel fires not only result in the loss of lives but can also cause property damage and long service disruptions that can result in millions of dollars lost and major socioeconomic impacts. While much research has gone into safety surrounding fire events in tunnels, less has been done in resilience.

The way we think about and use transportation as it exists today has been shaped by innovative women leaders throughout history.
