Effects of Exposure to Fire on Strength of Suspension Bridge Cables Over Time

This includes, early findings following high-fidelity forensic investigations of structures subjected to fire, quantifying hazards associated with traffic patterns and access to cables, and more.

Studying Damages from Hurricane Maria to Improve Future Infrastructure Resilience

Enhancing the Resilience of Tunnels Subject to Fire Events

Major tunnel fires not only result in the loss of lives but can also cause property damage and long service disruptions that can result in millions of dollars lost and major socioeconomic impacts. While much research has gone into safety surrounding fire events in tunnels, less has been done in resilience.

UHPC and LMC overlays are being evaluated at Rutgers’ state-of-the-art Bridge Evaluation and Accelerated Structural Testing (BEAST®) facility, where a full-scale bridge (50 ft. simply-supported span) is being subjected to simulated highway truck traffic and environmental loading.
